Localization Brief Template for Global Shopify Stores

A practical localization brief for Shopify teams preparing product pages, policies, checkout copy, support content, and market-specific trust signals.

Localization gets messy when the brief only says "translate the site."

That instruction gives the translator words, but it does not give the team a market strategy. Product claims, shipping anxiety, sizing, payment trust, support expectations, and brand positioning all need context before the words are rewritten.

Use this brief before localizing a Shopify store for a new market.

1. Market And Reader Context

Start the brief with who the localized store is for and what they need to believe before buying.

Document:

This keeps localization focused on conversion, not just language coverage.

2. Product Page Inputs

Product pages need factual source material, not only the domestic copy.

For each priority product, collect:

  • Product purpose
  • Use cases
  • Ingredients, materials, or specifications
  • Size, fit, volume, or compatibility details
  • Before-and-after expectations where appropriate
  • Safety, compliance, or claim limits
  • Differentiators compared with local alternatives
  • Shipping restrictions or bundle rules

The localization team should not have to guess what matters. Give them the operational facts first.

3. Trust And Proof Inputs

Trust signals should be selected for the market, not copied from the domestic store.

Different markets trust different proof.

Include:

  • Review sources and review language
  • Press, awards, certifications, or retail partners
  • Founder or brand story points
  • Social proof from relevant channels
  • Creator or expert proof where allowed
  • Guarantees, return terms, and support coverage

A Korean badge, domestic marketplace ranking, or local celebrity proof may matter at home but need explanation overseas.

4. Checkout And Policy Inputs

Localization should cover the moment where customers decide whether the store feels safe enough to pay.

The brief should include customer-facing policy language for:

  • Shipping cost and delivery estimate
  • Duties, taxes, and customs
  • Returns and exchanges
  • Refund timing
  • Damaged or missing packages
  • Customer support response time
  • Payment security

5. Tone And Vocabulary Rules

Give translators brand voice boundaries and terms that should stay consistent.

Add a small glossary:

This prevents a store from sounding like several different brands across product pages, emails, and policy copy.

6. QA Questions Before Publishing

The localized store should be reviewed as a buyer journey, not a page-by-page translation task.

Before publishing, ask:

  • Can a first-time customer understand the product in 30 seconds?
  • Are the main purchase objections answered before checkout?
  • Are shipping and return expectations visible?
  • Does the copy avoid unsupported claims?
  • Does the CTA language match the customer's intent?
  • Do email, policy, cart, and checkout copy use the same terms?

Localization is finished only when the buying path makes sense in the market.
